Being fascinated with the aesthetic of beauty, her work is an outlet by which she seeks to find the answer to what makes men and women feel confident about themselves. Her curiosity led her to begin studying hair in 2005 at the Stratford Festival School of Hairstyling. After graduation, she accepted an apprenticeship position at Hair Masters and successfully completed her license in 2007.
With ambitions to broaden her skills, Chelsey decided to further her education at Fanshawe College in the Fashion Merchandising program. There Chelsey learned the art of photo styling, the aesthetic of beauty, merchandising, business and financing as well as other beneficial trade skills. This led to opportunities otherwise never imagined, such as volunteering backstage at L’Oreal Fashion Week and for designer Giambattista Valli. Other hair and makeup photo shoots came about including some local fashion shows and assisting in photo styling for the fashion section of the London Free Press.
After graduating with honors and receiving the ‘Enthusiastic Award’ from the student body, Chelsey re-entered the hair business where she secured an assistant position with celebrity stylist Jeff Altenburg of Shampoo Planet in London, Ontario. There Chelsey learned to think outside of the box and pushed her creativity through makeovers, fashion styles and colouring.
That opportunity led to Chelsey landing another assistant position with award winning stylist, Julie Vriesinga at Entrenous Salon in London, Ontario. The ‘hands on’ practicality for Chelsey resulted in practice makes perfect and at Entrenous, she learned to really critique her work as a hair stylist. Whether it was through precision cutting or paying attention to the ‘little things’ she learned that the smallest detail meant everything. She furthered her education with L’Oreal Professional and continued to volunteer with weddings, fashion shows and photo shoots.
While working at Entrenous, Chelsey furthered her knowledge through night classes at Elegance School in London, Ontario and received her certificate in makeup. She obtained her Mac Pro Artist Certificate where she continues to train herself through Mac education. Chelsey’s makeup approach can be described as clean, beautiful and well executed with the professionalism to communicate and deliver what the client envisions.
After four years of gaining experience in London, Chelsey returned to her hometown of Woodstock and accepted a stylist position at Main Attraction. With a fresh new outlook to hairstyling and makeup, Chelsey brought to the table an experience in updos, colours and cuts. Her passion for keeping up with new trends and styles for each season has helped Chelsey to be the talented stylist and make up artist she is.
As of 2013, Chelsey ventured on her own and joined Alaina Vollmershausen at Glow Hair Studio in Woodstock. She continues to challenge and further her knowledge of hair and makeup techniques through education, photo shoots and through the people she meets in the salon. Chelsey is well-informed with the Schwarzkopf Professional colour and style, Kevin Murphy and Moroccan Oil hair products as well as Hair Affairs extensions.
Passion is the central philosophy of Chelsey’s artistry and the promotion of beauty as diversity is splashed all over her work. She continues to unfold and take form in all her endeavours.
Chelsey’s motto speaks for itself: “I feel like there’s true beauty in every person and to have the ability to bring that out in everyone is an amazing feeling that can never be replaced.”
