Birchbox for June

For the month of June, Birchbox delivered 5 samples (and 1 added bonus- a head band that I use when washing my face),that you would take with you for traveling. There a few products that scored big on my preference list, where others I’d never try again. Be sure to check the products yourself!

Meghan Markle (Rachel from Suits and editor in chief of The Tig) gave us her top 3 travel tips.

Tip #1- Layer dryer sheets in your suitcase so clothes smell fresh when you arrive, and especially when you return home!
Tip #2- Pack a multiple stick and face spritz for a quick touch-up on cheeks, lip and face when you land. You’ll look and feel fresh- instantly.
Tip #3- Live like a local: Find a great cooking class with a local chef or go to an art or dance class. That new skill with be the best souvenir!

1) COASTAL SCENTS Revealed 3 Eyeshadow Quad ($24, available at on the Birchbox, Amazon or Coastal Scents sites)
WHAT Versatile range of satiny-smooth shadows in wear-with-anything hues
MY THOUGHTS I wasn’t completely sold on this product. Because I am a true MAC Cosmetics fan, I found that the longevity of this product didn’t last all day. It is for sure very smooth applying and it didn’t flake all over, but that’s as far as I enjoyed it. I wish they had sent me four colours that worked together, but instead I got four different shades that really only work for contouring the eye. If you like a really natural look, then this might be something you would be interested in.

2) CYNTHIA ROWLEY BEAUTY Brightening Illuminator ($32, available on the Cynthia Rowley Beauty or Birchbox sites)
WHAT This velvety highlighter leaves skin radiant with a subtle, slightly shimmery glow
MY THOUGHTS This is by far my favourite product of the month!! I do love the MAC Cosmetics strobe cream for highlighting, but the pearl pink affect in this illuminator is so natural and makes my skin glow so much! It also came with a how to apply instructions which I think a lot of people would like. I do plan to buy more of this stuff. Summer dewy skin all the way!

3) NAOBAY Oxygenating Cream Moisturizer ($45, available on the Naobay, Glossybox or Birchbox sites)
WHAT Made with avocado and olive oils, this 98% natural cream nourishes and hydrates skin
MY THOUGHTS This cream was definitely nice to use! I will admit though, I still keep thinking about the Honey Bee Lotion from May’s sample box. This cream did lather nicely and it felt nice on the skin (the rich moisture of avocado helps), but there wasn’t any particular scent that drew me in and I didn’t notice throughout the day my skin feeling amazing. I would rate this an average everyday lotion. It is a bit pricey though so I doubt I’d buy it.

4) PARLOR BY JEFF CHASTAIN Moisturizing Sea Salt Spray ($27, available on the Parlor by Jeff Chastain or Birchbox sites)
WHAT This celeb stylist’s new nondrying spray gives you soft, beachy waves- and smells amazing
MY THOUGHTS I loved the smell of this product (ripe peach, fresh cut grass and wild woods)! But I didn’t love how wet it was applying (I’m used to using Kevin Murphy Beach texture spray which I found the spray to be a more mist application). It would basically be a product you put in your hair damp and let air dry for that beachy look. But with my super curly hair, I don’t get the same effect as someone with wavy hair, so I feel I can’t really rate this product. A famous hairstylist did create this product, so I’m sure it has great reviews!

5) SKYN ICELAND Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels ($33, available on the Skyn Iceland, Amazon or Birchbox sites)
WHAT Peptide-packed cooling treatment to hydrate and refresh stressed skin under the eyes
MY THOUGHTS I’ve seen this product all over Instagram on famous celebrities and super models, so it was nice to get my hands on this to see what the rave was all about. Let me tell you- they are so worth it!! I don’t really get puffy eyes myself (blessed with good under eye genes), but I felt and saw instant results when I took the eye gels off. The product is packed with Icelandic glacial water and Artic botanical extracts which gives an amazing cooling sensation when applied to the under eye area. You leave it on for 10 minutes and then Voila!- you’re left with the appearance of reduced puffiness and fine lines, while having a brighter, more firm under eye skin. It only came with one sample, so that was a little disappointing, but in the actual sizes, it includes 8 eye gels, so I feel the price is worth it!
